Jordan's Ministry of Education and British Council Extend Teaching for Success Partnership Until 2029

 

Amman – The Ministry of Education and the British Council have announced the extension and expansion of their Teaching for Success partnership until 2029, reaffirming their shared commitment to English language education and the continuous professional development of teachers in Jordan. The renewed partnership was formalised through an agreement signed by His Excellency Professor Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Alex Lambert, Country Director Jordan and Levant Lead, British Council, marking the next phase of a long-standing collaboration to support high-quality English language teaching and learning. 
The renewed agreement marks a significant milestone in a partnership that has grown from a successful pilot initiative into a nationally co-funded programme supporting the Ministry’s priorities for improving the quality of English language teaching. 
Since its launch in 2022, Teaching for Success has supported over 7,000 English language teachers across Jordan. Under the renewed partnership, the programme will reach approximately 4,000 teachers annually, backed by a joint annual investment by both parties. 
H.E. Prof. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research welcomed the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the British Council, highlighting the value of bringing together Jordanian and British expertise to strengthen the skills of in-service teachers. He stated that the Ministry will work closely with the British Council to implement the initiative and expressed his confidence that the partnership will contribute to improving learning outcomes. 
The extension reflects the Ministry of Education and the British Council’s long-standing collaboration in developing a sustainable model of teacher professional development that combines national priorities with evidence-informed international practice. By investing in teachers, the partnership aims to improve classroom practice and strengthen learning outcomes for students across Jordan. 

His Majesty's Ambassador, Philip Hall OBE commented: “Jordanians’ language skills are impressive.  The Teaching for Success partnership should help every teacher of English in Jordan teach the language even better.  It’s a fantastic programme and I wish success to every teacher participating and to every child benefiting.” 
Alex Lambert, British Council Director in Jordan, said: “Teaching for Success demonstrates what can be achieved through long-term partnerships built on trust, shared expertise and a common commitment to improving education. We are proud to continue working alongside the Ministry of Education to support teachers across Jordan and strengthen English language education through a sustainable, nationally owned model of professional development.”
